Play Dough Recipe

This is just what you need. Have fun with your kids.

Playdough
Ingredients:
2 mugs of plain flour,
1 mug of salt,
1 tbsp of cream of tartar,
2 tbsp of cooking oil,
2 mugs of water,
3/4 drops of colouring
(depending on how bright you want it).

Method

Put all the ingredients into a saucepan.

Cook on a low heat until it becomes tacky.

Put out onto the worktop and let it cool.

Keep kneading it until it is no longer tacky.

Store in an airtight container to stop it drying out when not in use.

The usefulness of playing dough

Playdough is useful for children's manipulation skills. It develops hand-eye coordination. The children will probably enjoy using
shaped cutters, making shapes independently, using a rolling pin, using
the playdough to make letters from their name, making faces, animals,
etc. Playdough is also good for role-play and encourages conversation
between adult and child or child and child. Ideas would be to make
a pretend cake, dinners, etc. Encourage the children to ask you
questions to find out what you want and when they are answering
your questions encourage them to answer in sentences. These are good
conversational skills that will be useful to them not only in nursery
but further up in the school as well.
